‘For this exhibition I have been interested in exploring Cunning folk’s connection to nature, particularly ideas of the Cunning Folk Familiar. Familiars were helpers who would guide, protect and provide knowledge often taking on animal form. The relationship between Cunning Folk and their Familiar was often viewed to be symbiotic and benevolent. Owl familiars were thought to provide companionship, healing and protection, whilst moths were linked with ideas of guidance, intuition and transformation.’
