Farne Island Clifftops by Matt Johnson
£40.00
The old school gallery is proud to present a new collection of prints commissioned from the acclaimed illustrator, Matt Johnson.
This exclusive series focuses on the dramatic and evocative landscape of Northumberland coast. Matt’s work masterfully captures the region’s defining elements: the local ornithology, castles, and the enduring character of the coastline. The resulting prints translate the spirit of the British landscape into Johnson’s signature distinctive restricted colour aesthetic.
Matt Johnson is an illustrator specializing in British landscape and wildlife, based in Cornwall. His work is widely recognized due to his long tenure as the Senior Creative Designer at the fashion company Seasalt, where he spent over 18 years creating textile prints for their signature bags, scarves, tea towels, and clothing.
Johnson’s own illustrations are rooted in the natural world, informed by his life in Cornwall since 2004. His artistic process blends traditional sketching from life with contemporary techniques: pieces are developed in his Falmouth studio using digital media, painting, and collage. This approach gives his illustrations the layering and depth that have made his style so instantly recognizable.
He also works as a freelance illustrator, selling prints online, and is the author of the illustrated book, “Red Sails & Pilchards,” published in 2022. He lives in Falmouth with his wife Kathryn and a black cat called Pooky.
