There is a kind of strange magic about Blawearie on Old Bewick Moor. The past feels close to the surface, still felt vividly in this moorland place. The natural world combines with deeply-rooted human meaning at Blawearie, and Rose was drawn back to this site again and again, making these three pieces in response. ‘The Cairnfields, Blawearie’ explores the rocky remains of Bronze Age burial monuments, and the almost totemic forms of the outer stones. ‘Gods of Sky and Stone’ follows a walk beneath the hillfort, and ‘Bleawearie Dreaming’ imagines the meanings of markings in the great drifts of sculptural sandstone boulders.
