Puffins on the shore – Alexandra Finkeldey
£60.00
By Alexandra Finkeledy
20″ x 16″ printed on 380gm heavyweight fine art paper wrapped on backing board
Alex is a self-taught freelance artist based in Ottawa, Canada. Growing up, she was fortunate to travel around her beautiful country (among others!). She has always drawn inspiration from these experiences, which are reflected in her illustrations as organic elements such as plants, animals, food, and people. She has also long been inspired by the animation and video game industry, which has translated into vibrant and often unreal colour palettes as they appear in her work. She is primarily a traditional artist. Her typical mediums include watercolour, gouache, coloured pencil, and ink.
This print is part of our School prints revisited project. Towards the end of the Second World War Brenda Rawnsley and her husband Derek set up the groundbreaking School Prints Ltd to supply original contemporary art to primary schools as way to inspire children after nearly a decade of war.
The lithograph printing was undertaken by Baynard Press working with artists to produce prints with no more than six colours and included work from Picasso, L. S. Lowry, John Nash and Matisse
We have commissioned a wonderful set of new prints by some of our favourite illustrators which we will be showing alongside some of the original school prints in winter 2022.
We will be adding to this new selection of School prints through 2023, with print donations made to schools across Northumberland.
