Colour, joy and freedom pour out of Powell’s artwork. Covering a vast range of subjects, the work portrays evocative landscapes rooted in her hometown, Brixham, and the surrounding Devon coastline; surreal still lifes; powerful abstracts; grand floral depictions; and ethereal flying wildlife. Powell is prolific, working on any surface in reach, she uses a wide scope of media – painting, drawing, collage, sculpture, domestic object, digital art and more. The work is bold and expressive, with an intensity of colour and sense of release. Recent works have reflected her journey into motherhood after giving birth to a daughter in the winter of 2021 in contrast with the turbulence of global and domestic politics of the past year. With a recent solo show The Year Of The Tiger in St Ives leading her to be hailed as ‘one of the most important emerging artists in the UK today’, Powell’s work knows no limits.

Growing up in Liverpool, Powell went on to study at Norwich school of art for her formal training with a sabbatical at the Ecole Régionale des Beaux-Arts de Rouen (2008-2011). Powell has exhibited with the Royal Society of Art, collaborated with MoMA, National Galleries of Scotland and The British Museum, and was part of the 2020 BBC Documentary for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition Show. In 2021 Powell exhibited across the UK in mixed and solo shows. Recent months have seen the publication of first book Start Painting Now, and an invitation to paint the front entrance at Great Ormond Street Hospital For Children, and an upcoming residency at Dartington Trust.
